Supply List

• One 16x20 canvas for each of the first 5 classes (IF you are following the step-by-step lesson.  If not, you may use any size canvases you want to use.). *Please see below instructions for prepping your canvases prior to class.

• Palette knives - one for mixing (straight handle) and one for painting (raised/curved handle)

• Long handled brushes: recommended sizes include
  • A 1 inch flat
  • A large round
  • A small flat or round for details
  • A liner (Rigor) - these usually only come with short handles

• Color shapers (optional)

• Something to use as a palette.  Some options include:
  • Paper or plastic plate
  • Freezer paper (glossy side) or palette paper
  • A framed sheet of glass or plastic
  • A plastic or metal container with a lid

• Something to hold water for brushes while in use.  I use old “soup” cans.

• A spray/spritz bottle for water

• Sketchbook or paper

• Pencil

• Charcoal (Vine charcoal is what I use)

• Sharpie or other thick black marker

• painters tape

• matte or gel medium

• Paper towels

• Small plastic bag for trash

• scissors

Prepping your Canvas:

If possible, you should prep your canvas prior to class.  If not, this is the first thing you should do as soon as you arrive to class.  For students working in acrylic only, or starting with an acrylic base to paint over in oils:

• Prep your canvas with a medium value color (mid way between black and white as shown in the image below.)

• Cover the front so that no white is showing, and paint the edges as well.
